Off-grid energy supplier DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) is deploying generators totaling 10 MW to the islands of Masbate and Palawan in preparation for the May 9 polls.
Five units of 1 megawatt (MW) generating sets will be sent to Irawan in Palawan while seven generating units totaling 5 MW will be delivered to Masbate.
The decision to augment the generating capacity in the said missionary areas was reached after DPC's recent dialogues with the Boards of Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) and Masbate Electric Cooperative (MASELCO).
“Adequate and uninterrupted power supply is critical to the conduct of orderly and credible elections. We are committed to doing our part in ensuring the success of the electoral process,†DPC president Nestor Dadivas said on Thursday. The provinces of Palawan and Masbate have around one million registered voters.
Recently, DPC was also tapped to supply power to the municipalities of Brooke's Point, Bataraza and Española in Palawan for six weeks, after the National Power Corporation (NPC) scheduled preventive maintenance work on its 69 kilovolt southern transmission line.
To avert power outage in the three towns during the maintenance process, DPC operated eight generation sets with around 5 MW dependable capacity 24/7 on island-mode.
