MANILA, Philippines – Joint operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Army on Tuesday evening arrested the suspect in the alleged attempt to kill the vice mayor of Milagros town in Masbate.
In a statement, the Masbate provincial police said Garry Santiago de los Reyes, 24, was arrested about 11:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sitio Malapay, Narangasan village in Milagros town.
Police said de los Reyes, who was positively identified by witnesses as the gunman that attempted to kill Milagros Vice Mayor Antonino de Jesus, sustained a wound in his right shoulder during the pursuit operations against him.
De Jesus survived the ambush but one of his civilian escorts, Nestor “Maya" Arenabo, was killed in the attack which occurred 5 p.m. Tuesday in the village of M.R. Espinosa of the said town. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
